Dr. Gettys (University of Florida) provides a brief history of pesticide use, outlines herbicide modes and mechanisms of action, describes how herbicide resistance develops (and how it can be avoided), discusses the process involved in getting a pesticide labeled, and instructs on how to read a pesticide label.

Joey Sigmon covers general insect morphology and some of the characteristics useful for identifying
insects used for biological control. The ultimate goal of this session is to provide attendees with the
tools needed to distinguish between beneficial biocontrol insects and pest organisms, and will include
ways to avoid non-target damage to these tiny weed control warriors.

This session includes two presentations, both by Dr. Fred Whitford (Purdue University). Dr. Whitford discusses tricks and tips to for storing and measuring pesticides to keep you safe and legal while saving you money.

the mystery of a fish kill” and helps you figure out what killed the fish. Jan Fore from FWC focuses on
“Staying safe in the field: Python Patrol!” and provides information about how to protect and preserve
yourself, your coworkers and native snakes.
